Veterinary toxicology is a veterinary medicine specialty. A veterinary toxicologist is an expert on the chemical and physical substances that cause disease (aetiology). Under legislated veterinary practise, governments regulate the professional status of individuals detecting disease entities, prescribing treatment and medications, and performing surgery and dental treatments on animals. Veterinary pharmacology and toxicology are becoming more well acknowledged as essential subjects, and in the mid-twentieth century, they were also rapidly evolving and developing. Veterinary toxicology is a complicated subject since it involves a wide range of poisons. Toxicology is a broad field that encompasses the identification and characterization of a wide range of toxicants (pharmaceuticals, food and feed additives, natural toxins, consumer products, and specific chemicals), as well as their physical and chemical properties, body fate, and biological effects. Synthetic compounds now account for the majority of substances found in animal poisonings. In emergency veterinary medicine, acute poisoning is a common occurrence. Furthermore, veterinary toxicology is involved with the treatment of poison-related diseases. Veterinary medicine, specifically veterinary toxicology, must now be integrated with environmental medicine.
