Clinical Toxicology

Clinical toxicology is a branch of toxicology that deals with the treatment of poisoned patients at the bedside, including conclusive toxicological diagnosis, assessment of immediate severity and long-term prognosis, and therapy selection, which includes antidotes. A clinical toxicologist's knowledge of potential medication and chemical risks allows them to contribute in the preparation for and prevention of chemical intoxications. Toxicants are a major cause of disease in humans. As a result, clinical toxicology is a branch of internal medicine that benefits greatly from the expertise of other medical professions. Clinical toxicology necessitates a solid understanding of pharmacology. A clinical toxicologist, on the other hand, may deal with tens of thousands of compounds, whereas pharmacology works with thousands. As a result, clinical toxicology has established its own subdisciplines, the most recent of which is toxicodynetics. Clinical toxicologists and toxicological scientists must work closely together to improve intoxication identification, prevention, and treatment.
