Applied Pharmacology

It is necessary to define "pharmacology" before attempting to define "applied pharmacology." "Study of the action and usage of drugs" is how pharmacology is defined. "Applied pharmacology" is the depiction or narrative of the clinical application of medications or their use in actual medical practice. Applied pharmacology allows a physician to apply his understanding of a medicine's abstract pharmacology to how the drug might really work in clinical practice. In other words, applied pharmacology is concerned with the application of pharmacological knowledge to therapies. Thus, especially with the development of multiple medications for the same condition, "applied pharmacology" has arisen as a separate discipline of pharmacology over the years. Applied pharmacology is useful in not only explaining the action of pharmaceuticals in the human body to a doctor or other medical expert, but also in evaluating the efficacy of drugs in a specific disease situation. Applied pharmacology plays a role in supporting physicians in selecting the appropriate drug for a patient. Even in veterinary medicine, applied pharmacology plays a role.
